Position Overview

The Manager, Member Programs and Education is responsible for driving the creation and delivery of compelling education and professional development programs that meet the business, networking, and professional development goals of MPL Association members. This includes designing and implementing relevant and impactful educational content and speaker identification and engagement. This role also manages and supports MPL Association member volunteer committees including, but not limited to, planning and organizing virtual and in-person meetings, managing volunteer communications, and overseeing volunteer recruitment and engagement. The position requires the ability to develop outstanding, customer-focused relationships with members, partners, and speakers as well as having excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and collaboration skills with flexibility and a strong ability to work with and contribute to a small team

This is a front-facing role that includes ongoing interaction with senior leadership from member insurance companies and other stakeholder leadership. The successful candidate will be an experienced, professional, consensus-builder. The manager demonstrates: high levels of organization, experience in coordinating the development of educational programming, a proven ability to collaborate with stakeholders to plan, execute, and evaluate program activities to ensure the achievement of program goals and objectives.

The ideal candidate is ready to “roll up their sleeves” and dive into our current programming and find ways to develop and provide relevant and impactful content and improve processes while learning our industry and stakeholders.

Position Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop compelling content and learning strategies for the Association’s member workshops, webinars, committees, forums, roundtables, online education, and conferences.
  • In conjunction with the logistics team, oversee and manage the annual operating budget for the Education Department.
  • Responsible for virtual learning strategy and implementation, including identification of content partners and new methodologies/formats for virtual learning and community building.
  • Develop and implement frameworks to track program outcomes and impact, including identifying relevant metrics and measurements to evaluate program results, ROI, participation, and effectiveness.
  • Manage and sustain committees, roundtables, and forums that effectively bring together members for peer-to-peer sharing, collaboration, relationship building, and mentoring.
  • Organize and host calls and meetings to promote active collaboration with member volunteers on program objectives, outcomes, and action items; follow-up with volunteers to drive action items to completion. Serve as primary contact for all speaker confirmations, content review, and presentation preparation, both pre-event and onsite.
  • Effectively maintain internal speaker database.
  • Serve as on-site point of contact for speakers, coordinating with AV/tech and other event/presentation logistics support as needed.
  • Management of Learning Management System (LMS) and related processes.
  • In collaboration with team members, responsible for ensuring the Association’s continuing education accreditation compliance (ACCM, ADA-CERP, AICPA).
  • Manage conference and workshop audio/video capture process, including content identification, selection of videographer and related vendors, on-site supervision, budget adherence, and editorial oversight and approval.
  • Work collaboratively with logistics staff to improve processes, workflows, and communication documentation.
  • Seek and maintain knowledge and awareness of current issues and trends, impacting the medical professional liability industry.
  • Other duties as requested.
Supervisory Responsibilities: No direct supervisory responsibilities.

Competencies/Qualifications: Required

  • Bachelor’s degree and five-plus years of experience developing annual conference, workshops and other programs for adult learners in a non-profit environment, or seven-plus years combined equivalent of work experience and education, required.
  • Confidence to ask questions, proactively seek out opportunities, and willingness to learn and look for ways to improve processes to achieve greater efficiency during all phases of planning.
  • Success in prioritizing, organizing, and tracking details, taking initiative, effectively managing deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • Exceptional customer service skills; personable and professional demeanor with the ability to build rapport within diverse audiences, including the Association leadership, committee members/volunteers, staff/team members, and other highly engaged members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to successfully manage both in-the-office and on-site functions despite interruptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively to express information in both written and oral context with various audiences -- including professional business writing and presentations.
  • Interest and capacity for developing in-depth understanding of the MPL industry, healthcare industry and related areas as applicable to Association content.
  • Proven track record of developing and managing well-attended, financially successful in-person and virtual programs and events.
  • Technological proficiency in Office 365, SharePoint, Teams, Zoom, and knowledge of learning management systems.
  • Experience and proficiency in working with Association management database.
  • Proven success in supporting a diverse roster of subject matter experts and partners.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
Preferred
  • Knowledge of healthcare and/or medical professional liability insurance industries.
  • Background in working with volunteers.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in adult learning and curriculum development.
  • Experience modernizing learning styles/formats.
  • Knowledge of continuing education accreditation compliance (CE, ACCME, CPE, ADA-CERP, CLE, etc.).
  • Familiarity with association/non-profit business models.
  • Professional designation (i.e., CMP), or advanced degree preferred
  • Association/non-profit management, event, or program development experience, client relationship management a plus.

Job Conditions

  • MPL Association is a hybrid workplace, allowing employees to telework up to three days per week. Physical office location in Rockville, MD.
  • Ability to travel up to 15%; required travel 3-5 times per year
  • Employee must be comfortable with airline travel, as well as the physical demands of working/exhibiting trade shows. These events may require non-traditional work hours and an increased focus on customer service.
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 40 pounds and to physically participate in the movement, set-up, and storage of event related items/materials.
