Time to Resolution—Part II

The previous issue of Inside Medical Liability highlighted that the average time to resolve a claim (incident to close) is 4.6 years.

During the same three-year time frame (2017-2019), a review of the most prevalent outcomes by the number of years (incident to close) showed that 10% of closed claims were resolved in three years, 16% in four years, 13% in five years, and 6% in six or more years. Breast cancer, bronchus and lung cancer, and colon cancer were among the top outcomes that took the longest to resolve.
