Cohen, Crolla, and Hudson Named Recipients of the 2021 MPL Industry Defender Award


(Rockville, MD, May 12, 2021)—The Medical Professional Liability (MPL) Association has awarded its 2021 MPL Industry Defender Award to Ellen Epstein Cohen, Domenic Crolla, and Clark Hudson. This award is presented to defense attorneys in recognition for their exceptional support of the MPL industry.

A partner and founding member of Adler Cohen Harvey Wakeman & Guekguezian, Ellen Epstein Cohen has successfully defended medical professionals for 38 years. Cohen is a graduate of the State University of New York-Binghamton and the Boston University School of Law. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Court of Appeals-1st Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. She focuses her practice on the defense of medical providers in state court, federal court, and before Boards of Registration that govern licensed healthcare professionals. In September 2016, Cohen was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has been repeatedly named a Super Lawyer and identified as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Massachusetts and one of the top 50 Female Super Lawyers in Massachusetts.

Domenic Crolla is a partner in Gowling WLG based in the firm’s Ottawa office. His practice emphasizes professional and product liability, particularly medical liability and health law cases. He has litigated many complex medical liability cases in a trial (jury and judge-alone), tribunal and appellate counsel role. He has served as lead general counsel to the Canadian Medical Protective Association since 2013 and has a special interest in the application of information technology to professional practice, particularly in relation to the practice of medicine and law. Recognized for many years as a leading practitioner by Lexpert, listed in Best Lawyers in Canada (including as Lawyer of the Year), Benchmark Canada, Chambers Canada (Band 1), Crolla is also a member of and has served as an officer in a number of professional societies, including the International Bar Association, Canadian Bar Association, Ontario Bar Association, and the Advocates Society. Crolla is a graduate of University of Ottawa and the Osgoode Hall Law School. He is the editor of the Electronic Healthcare Law Review.

Neil Dymott shareholder Clark Hudson specializes in civil litigation with emphasis in medical malpractice, professional liability, products liability, and personal injury. Since joining Neil Dymott in 1990, Hudson has tried more than 90 jury cases in various Southern California State Courts. He is a former board member and past president for the San Diego Defense Lawyer and served as senior director (2017‐2020) for the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel (FDCC), for which he received the John Alan Appleman Award in 2009. In September 2010, he was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers, and in October 2017, he was selected for fellowship in the International Society of Barristers. Since 2009, Hudson has been included among the Best Lawyers of America in Medical Malpractice Law, and for 2013 and 2018 was named the Top Medical Malpractice Defense Lawyer for Best Lawyers of America. Hudson is a graduate of University of Arizona and Washburn University School of Law.
